National Nature Park and Simply One More Wonder on the Way

The next mark on my route was another canyon. This time on a river. The river Southern Buh is the second-longest river in Ukraine. As it flows into the Black Sea direction, it forms a couple of canyons that became famous among rafting fans. So we went exactly to one of those places. To be more exact – we went there because it was the only location named “Camping” in the whole area.

I walked a bit further and realized that we are on the cliff of the former granite quarry called today the Radon Lake or the Blue Lake. We were stunned.

When we found the owner and asked where we could camp with the car, he just stood still and then said: “Follow me. I have something for you”. He showed us the dirt road which we should drive and then turned into some bushes. The road changed into a little way which was blocked with the improvised turnpike out of the huge piece of wood. He took this one away and lead us a couple more meters into the bushes. And the showed a spot. “Here you can stay”. I walked a bit further and realized that we are on the cliff of the former granite quarry called today the Radon Lake or the Blue Lake. We were stunned. The water looked like topaz laying on the sand. I don’t think I ever saw such pure water in Ukraine ever before.

We were incredibly happy, got our car from the parking spot and moved to the lonely spot on the cliff. That’s where we stayed for a night. That day we enjoyed the water of the Radon lake – its name comes exactly from the element Radon, which concentration is pretty high in its water. But no worries! It’s safe if you don’t spend hours in that water.

Our evening meal, as well as breakfast the next morning, we cooked on “The Bond’s Oven” – a little device, built by my brother to cook safe and fast in the wild. You only need a couple of sticks, paper pieces and the matches – and the oven makes a fire out of it pretty fast! Huh, the first day is coming to its end. Let’s get some rest…

On the next day we climbed Protychanska rock – a ridge about 100 m long and 40 m high, stretching from the Southern Buh river to the highway near it. It is considered a Cossack shrine. After that, we packed our stuff and left this beautiful place…. Oh, what a pity!

Only two days of the trip and I was already shocked by how much I’ve seen and how many surprises did my Homeland show. So what is going to be next? Will it be so stunning the whole journey? Our road laid north and the next stop had to be another natural wonder, – this time created by the humans. So let’s get excited and rush to the new adventures and discoveries!
